Please notethat the installation process could take 20-30 minutes. * Install iOS 9 update on your iPhone first. You won’t be able to install watchOS 2 update if your iPhone is running iOS 8.4.1 or lower. * Launch the Apple Watch companion app on your iPhone. * Then tap on Software Update. There’s no official figure on the duration of Apple Watch Update, but theApple Watch shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes to update its software,according to my experience. However, if you are downloading a big update, itcan take more time.

Apple Watch and iPhone communicate with each other via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Itmight be the case that these settings are accidentally disabled in either ofthe devices.
